Expertise & Experience: Languages & International Studies at NTU

Recognised nationally and internationally for its distinctive focus on the contemporary world, Language and International Studies (LIS) offers teaching, research and consultancies in Modern Languages, International Relations and European Studies.  Many of our courses are directly informed and enhanced by the investigations and findings of our research groups. For students across the University and members of the community alike, our University Language Programme provides tailored and level-appropriate language learning opportunities in a wide range of European and non-European languages.  LIS is the lead partner both in the East Midlands Routes into Languages Consortium and in the East Midlands Links into Languages project.

We have won three European Awards for Languages, including one for our work on the ALLEGRO project and another in conjunction with Nottingham City Education Local Education Authority for an innovative programme of Spanish language and culture training for primary school teachers.
