Wider ImpactThe VIVACE/ALLEGRO experience has had an effect beyond the immediate target groups. Although the individual actions are often small in scale, the scope and ambition of the work is unusual and impressive. It has attracted media attention and won awards. The first project, ALLEGRO, which pioneered the initiative and the approach, won three European Language Labels and a coveted bronze Lifelong Learning Prize from the European Commission. VIVACE was funded to take forward similar work in other countries and spread the message about the value of language learning for all citizens of the European Union. All the partners in the VIVACE/ALLEGRO projects have written about, given presentations about or talked in the media about their work. You can find examples in the Publicity section of the website. There is still a job to be done in embedding the message among decision makers at national and international level. This is quite probably another project in itself, but we believe that we have made a start in showing that languages really are for everyone, regardless of social situation, educational achievement or physical or mental disability. |
